Mysterious Cloak of Sun -SkyWatch Friday

We were in the parking lot of Guitar Center where we'd met up with a buyer for some of our older theater lights.  I couldn't help but notice this odd cloud formation.  The straight lines were quite intriguing.

Here is a closer shot a few moments after the first was taken.  Shortly after this there was a terrible storm.

Crystalline Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

It was so cold outside last week that water froze on the inside of our windows.  I was fascinated with the lovely shapes--so feathery and delicate.  Do you see the heart?  So perfect for Guest Heart Thursday!

Squirrel in Oaken Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Mumsie and I traveled through Oregon's Great Columbia Gorge last summer.  On our way we stopped at various parks and places to enjoy a hike, or two...or three.  We ate lunch sitting at a picnic table in the springtime sunshine and had an utterly lovely day.

How fun to note this little fellow perched inside a great oaken heart.  Can you see him?

If I didn't know better, I'd say he's a poser!!!  What a darling little fellow.

Have a great day everyone.

Isn't this heart wonderful?  I can also see an angel, or a big harp!  What do you see?

Have a lovely weekend and happy Guest Heart Thursday

Getting Geometric

I've been away from this blog for a time--but I have growing a collection of geometric clouds which must be shared.  Above is a triangle cloud I caught over the back fence.

Here you can see three oval clouds next to a triangle tree top!

I see lots and lots of squares in the clouds.  It seems so odd to see a square amidst normally smooth and fluffy clouds.  I'll post some of my better pictures of cloud squares at a later time.

Round clouds such as you see above and round spaces in the clouds are more common than you might think.  I just love this fluffy circle cloud!

Last you will see a rectangle cloud. This is a rare capture.  I caught this from the window of the van, as we were traveling.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone!

Little Tiny Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

This is a leaf my niece and I found on our walk.  If you enlarge the picture you will more tiny hearts than can be counted.  Good thing my little niece has such great eyesight!  lol

Have a blessed weekend!

Rainbow Moon -Guest Heart Thursday

I was astonished to see this colorful moon peering at me through the trees last night.  It was amazing--a beautiful rainbow circle.  Of course, hearts are hidden in the bare branches of these trees.

It was so very lovely--a rainbow moon.  Such a rare sight.

Have a beautiful weekend and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Nosey Toez Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I don't know if you can see it, but Toez the Polydactyl Cat has a little white heart on the end of her nose.  I took this picture of her last night, as she lay sleeping.  But not for long--she has GREAT hearing!  lol

As you can see--she's quite the character!

Have a lovely day!

Gnarled Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

We were hiking along the hillside, near where last summer's terrible fire was stopped in its tracks.  Here we found a gnarled oak tree clinging to the hillside.  Though the forest fire singed this beautiful tree--you can see it has sprouted green leaves.

If you look closely, you will see the shape of a gnarled heart in this tenacious old oak.  I thought it beautiful.

Rainstorm Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

We've had more of our share of soaking rainstorms this Fall.   This awesome gleaming heart appeared just before a huge deluge.  I thought it perfect for this week's Guest Heart Thursday--and for Halloween--a holiday known not only for its costumes and spooky traditions--but a time of grave darkness (no pun intended), which will be pressed back by the light of the Creator.

Golden Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

While visiting Mom on Monday, I came across this beautiful bouquet of leaves.  Mom's garden is incredibly beautiful and when the sun touched golden hands on these leaves they began to glow.  It felt magical.

Have a beautiful week!

Heart Shroom on Log -Guest Heart Thursday

Last weekend we were performing in Oregon's mighty Columbia Gorge.  My young friend and I were leaping across rocks and climbing old logs.  I would have completely missed this plump heart shroom if it were not the sharp eyes of my youthful companion.  There's nothing sharper than the eyes of a boy who loves nature.  I felt honored that this young man would take time to hang out with an old lady like me.

What a lovely beautiful day.  Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Heart on Shroom -Guest Heart Thursday

In our spare time between conference meetings, we knocked down a small dead fir tree and cut it up for firewood.  Beneath the canopy of fir, I found this amazing mushroom--it was bigger than the palm of my hand!  And yes, there's a heart to be found.

Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Volunteer Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

I cleared the little planting area outside my office window.  Mostly what grew there were bramble bushes, Herb Roberts and Day Lilies.  I put in some bark dust to keep it neat and forgot about it.  What a surprise to find a gigantic plant sprawling from the planter box onto the cement.  It was a volunteer squash plant.

No squash--just wonderful large yellow flowers.  I have enjoyed that volunteer squash plant more than I can say.  I will be sad to see it go when the first winter freeze steals away its delicate beauty.  In the meantime, I am grateful for the hearts outside my window.

Twirly Bird Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Not only are these in the shape of hearts, but when separated, these make wonderful "twirly birds!"  Years ago, I lived in a house on the side of a hill.  Below was a pasture where a giant maple tree stood.  Fall came in one swoop that year.  It was mid-morning when I happened to be standing at the window overlooking the field.  In an instant, a sudden tremendous gust of wind gathered every leaf and twirly bird from that tree into a fist of invisible air.

I watched open mouthed as the air laden with leaves swooped up the hill past our home to hurl them straight overhead.  As I ran outside for a better look, I was even more astonished--not a breath of wind stirred--it was totally still.   Then...magically, hundreds of thousands of "whirly birds" came drifting down like soft, brown, twirling snow.  It was one of the most beautiful, magical moments in nature I've ever experienced.

So...your assignment on this fine Fall day?  Find a maple tree, underneath there will be plenty of these.  Grab a "twirly bird" and throw it into the air.  It will make you smile.  Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Happy Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I was out weeding in the garden, when I chanced to glance upward.  Since my camera was sitting on the swing chair, I was able to capture this happy little cloud heart.  It felt like God was blowing me a kiss.

Have a lovely day, everyone!  There is always hope for tomorrow.

On Eagle's Wings -Guest Heart Thursday

Our last day together was such great fun.  We walked down to the big park and threw rocks into the river.  My darling little niece is getting pretty good at skipping rocks--I'm getting a bit better with practice, too.  To the great delight of my tiny niece, I actually made one jump five times!

We were playing in the waters, when across the river we noticed....

A set of three birds--I was so excited when I realized it was a bald eagle.  The father, Mom and speckled young'un were there in full sight.  The osprey would dive bomb them every once in awhile, trying to chase them away.  It was pretty far away, so I didn't get that great of a picture.

If you click on this closeup--you can see there are hearts in the eagle's feathers.  We were SO amazed and happy to see this magnificent bird.

Then my darling niece insisted I take a picture of a "sorta" heart with a face.  Do you see the snails?  They're eyes.  And that rock heart face is smiling.  (grin)

Have a lovely day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Heart of Light -Guest Heart Thursday

We were on one of our long walks, when my little niece excitedly pointed out this heart of light.  I barely had time to take a picture of it--then it was gone.  Just a flitting bit of magic, rather like the kiss of an angel.

Thunder Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Tuesday,  we were expecting thunderstorms all day long.  We didn't have thunderstorms, but I saw some mighty interesting "bubble" clouds.  It looked like the sky was boiling.

Of course, you see all the upside down hearts--just perfect for Guest Heart Thursday!
